12 March 2024 – Hands on Night

 In Hands on Nights

Hands on Night

After a busy few days with the Midlands Woodworking Show, we settled back into the normal Club meetings, starting with our Hands on Night.  We had expected it to be a busy night, but it was slightly quieter than normal, but we still had several new faces with 3 new members joining us.

With just the 3 instructors available, Zak and John were kept busy with the new turners and Chris kept the rest of the members entertained and encouraging them to have a go to help with technique and improving their skills.

We had some fantastic items on the exhibition table showing what you have been up to, so please bring what you have turned to the next meeting and don’t forget to send in some photos for the Workshop Night next Tuesday for the Show & Tell.

Our Shop team, Paul, Rob, Mel and Dave certainly had a busy night with sales and also had to restock the shelves with lots of Chestnut products, some timber brought at the Show plus a few LED lathe lights.  As you will have seen by gaps appearing, we are gradually reducing the stock held and will be concentrating more on consumables, such as the finishing products and timber.

Mick had brought along a table full of tools and equipment he has for sale, including a Microclene Air Filter MC780 for only £40, pictured on the right of the table, plus having just treated himself to a new lathe he has his Record Herald lathe with legs, bed extension and bowl turning out rigger all for only £675 which is bargain.  If interested please get in contact.

We would like to know if there are any products etc that you might like to have available in the Shop rather than you having to source elsewhere.  We endeavour to keep the prices low as possible to pass on any savings to you where we can.  We still have several clocks at half price along with project kits and pen kits.  So if you have not tried making pens or any project kit type items before, why not give them a go, they make great presents for family and friends.  Not sure where to start? Well check out this video on our YouTube channel HERE that will give you an introduction to pen turning, what you need and how to do it.  Thanks to all the Shop Team for the work they do to bring you such a great Club Shop.

For more photos of the evening please check out the Gallery.

And finally,

19 Mar 2024 – Workshop Night.   The meeting links will be sent out over the next few days, so if you have not had it by Sunday evening, check your spam/junk mail and if not in there, please get in touch. Also, if you have any photos to go into the last Show and Tell, please send them in by no later than Monday 7pm.  The Dropbox link to send them to will be in the email.  Thanks.

2024 Training Days – The next Training day is in April which is now fully booked, but fear not, we do still have spaces in Jun, Sept and Nov.  Remember these are open to the public and not just members, so if you want to secure your place, book now, don’t delay.  To see what we have available and to book your place, please look HERE.

Good to see some new faces at the hall as a result of the Newark Show I believe. Although it was a little thinner on the ground than normal. Still it’s good to catch up with other members watch the in house turners and have a tea/coffee. Even I ended up turning a small item with Chris.
