13 Feb 2024 – Hands of Night

Hands on Night

It’s going to be a busy few weeks for the Club so to start this off, we opened up the Village Hall for our Hands on Night.  A bit of a wet night with lots of standing water on the roads made the journey in a bit awful for some.  Thankfully, everyone got there safely so it was good to see a good turn out with a few new guests and also some new members as well, plus all the usual band of loyal members.

Thanks to those willing helpers in setting the hall up and clearing it all away and for bringing along the very important refreshments! The Shop team were kept busy with new stock being added in the form of some belts suitable for the Pro Edge at some very reasonable prices.  We are in the process of restocking the Chestnut products before a lot of the prices go up.  There will be several items where unfortunately the prices may have to increase, not our choice, but like everything these days the material costs have rocketed.

Zak and Darren were kept busy all evening with some one to one instruction for the beginner turners.  Meanwhile, Chris kept the rest of the  audience entertained and helped those wanting to have a go to improve on their skills.

If you want to book yourself in on a lathe, of which we normally have two lathes set aside for just that, there are 4 available slots per hands on night.  To book these, either just drop us an email or go to the relevant event in the calendar and fill out a booking form and submit.  Did I say it was free, well it is!

Another fantastic selection of exhibition items on the table this month which is always great to see.  We have some very talented turners amongst our members and the standard of the items being shown never ceases to amaze and hopefully inspires our new members and guests to show what can be done with this mystical spinning machine and these sharp pointy tools!

The Hall is looking very smart now it has been redecorated and they have just had the flooring redone with is looking fantastic.  Please lets help keep it that way by being extra careful when walking about with refreshments, if you spill it, please clear it up quickly to prevent marks/staining and when moving any tables, chairs or equipment about, don’t drag them across the floor.

For more photos of the evening please check out the Gallery.

And finally,

Newark Woodworking Show 8-9 Mar 2024 – If you have not done so already, can you please bring along any items you would like for us to display at the Newark Show to the Training Day this Sat 17 Feb 24.  We will be at the Village Hall from 8am to 5pm to drop off any boxed items.  Please clearly mark each item and the box with your full name and package accordingly to enable safe transfer to and from the show.  The Club will take care of your item(s) but as it’s a public show we will not be held responsible for any breakages.

Training Days – Both Feb and Apr Training Days are now fully booked.  Missed out on those, don’t worry we still have plenty of spaces on the ones in Jun, Sept and Nov.  Go HERE to book now.

20 Feb 2024 – Workshop Night – The Zoom meeting links will go out in the next day or so, so keep an eye out for it hitting your inbox.  If you have some photos of items you have been making please send them in to go into the Show and Tell.  Sadly, we did not have enough sent in last month to warrant doing the presentation, so let’s see what you been up to this month.

Thanks

Martin
