13 Jun 2023 – Hands on Night, Painting and Half Price Sale

 In Hands on Nights

Welcome to our Hands on Night

This will be a quick and short news post you will be pleased to hear.

The Hands on Night on Tuesday 13 Jun was very well attended on a rather warm evening.  Nice to see new guests coming along to see what its all about and hopefully they will decide to join us in due course.  It was great to see Zak back on the lathe at the Club along with Mick, Chris and Darren and John doing some sharpening lessons on the Pro-edge.  Darren’s getting a dab hand with the Skew chisel so he will soon be giving John Liles a run for his money!

Thank you for their continued support to the Club to enable these nights to happen and also to our group of Humpers and Dumpers who help setting it all up and putting it all away after the bulk of the members have gone home.  Everyone is encouraged to help as much as possible and within their own physical capabilities, as they say, ‘many hands make light work’.

We had another great display of member’s work on the exhibition table which is good to see and gives something to talk about.  Please bring along what ya turned!

We have now received 5 new Honeywell Bionic full face masks to provide a much better level of face protection for our members safety, plus 8 new over glasses specs as our old were were becoming very scratched.  To protect our nice new face masks, a very talented seamstress, Mrs J Lee made us some lined draw string bags sporting our club logo badge.  Thank you.  We have also ordered some pouches for the over glasses specs which should be here soon.

For more photos of the evening please check out the Gallery.

This evening was the first time the shop opened with a point of sale system (POS) after several weeks of stock checking and entering all stock onto a computer which was a massive task.  The POS is all new and will take a bit of getting used to, but the first night went well, but please bear with the shop keepers who are learning as they go and overcoming glitches and finding the best way of working.

We have recently asked our members about how they feel about going cashless at the club during our previous news post.  All those that took the time to submit a comment as requested, where in favour.  It was also announced at the Club, where those members who do not necessary use the internet or don’t like to comment online for some reason, were given the opportunity to register their preference as well on forms in the shop and in the main hall.  We have had no objections from those members either. We would will still have the backup ability to take cash in the event of card machine or card failure.  It was therefore agreed at the Committee meeting on Wed 14th Jun, that the Club will be going cashless as of the 1 Aug 23.  Those members not online will be informed of this arrangement via post in due course.

Following the stock check, we have identified a large number of items that we need to reduce the holding of and as a result we have a special offer on clocks and project kits selling them to members at half price which is a massive saving.  They are already being snapped up so please get along to the shop which will be open tomorrow morning Sat 17 Jun 23, from 10am to midday and then the next time, will be on the July’s Hands on Night.  Please don’t miss the one time offer to grab yourself a bargain.

Whilst we are running the Training Day tomorrow, plus having the Club Shop open, we are also asking for able bodied members to come along to help do some painting of the container and lean to.  Please bring along any brushes you have, something to assist with sanding down and suitable PPE to protect your and your clothing.  Thank you for your help in advance.

What’s up next?
