9 May 2023 – Hands on Night & Axminster Craft Lathe & Chuck For Sale
Welcome to our Hands on Night
Hands on Night has come around again and this month we had 34 members and one new guest join us for the evening. This meant the hall was bustling with lots of chatting, learning and generally all having a good time. With Chris, Mick and Darren on the lathes, they were all kept busy with either individual one to one training or on instruction being given to a crowd by Chris.
We had a good selection of members work on the exhibition table which is great to see as photos don’t do them justice. We have some fantastic turners in the Club and it never ceases to amaze me the range of items that are made proving woodturning is not just bowls.
We also had the Club Shop open as normal where Paul, Mel, Dave and Rob were kept busy. We are in the process of getting the complete shop inventory into an electronic format so we can manage the stock and shortly the shop will have a point of sale introduced to track sales. This in time will enable receipts/invoices for purchases to be given, especially useful for those able to claim them as a business expense. John Radford was manning a table selling a good range of tools and equipment that Mick had brought along to sell, so next month make sure you get yourself a bargain.
A reminder that if you would like to have a go on a lathe with an instructor for a one to one during the June’s Hands on Night, you can now book in advance on the Event page HERE. It’s Free!! During a Hands on Night you can fill in the form on the entrance table for the following month, or if we have spaces on the night, just ask and we will endeavour to get you onto a lathe.
For more photos of the evening please check out the Gallery.

Always good to get into the hall and see so many members and friends enjoying themselves, Zoom has many advantages but meeting face to face will always be special. People don’t always realise what goes on behind the scenes so a big thank you to Darren and his humpers and dumpers, to those that man the lathes , not forgetting the tea and coffee supplier, believe it or not this doesn’t magically appear every week, and finally not forgetting those in the shop always willing to listen to your stories, look at your projects and especially relieve you of your money
I think you covered everything there Paul. I think I should point out that not everyone meeting me face to face regards it as special.🤣🤣
I must say it was a most enjoyable night, some really good banter. Not only that, but the ideas and advice given to me was invaluable and unprintable.🤣🤣
Always a good night and nice to see new members. Must be doing something right.
