9 Nov 2021 – Hands on Night
Hands on Night
As the dark cold evenings draw in, we see ourselves meeting up in the dark again at the Village Hall. However, despite this, we were pleased to see a slight increase in the numbers attending and a few new faces which is always great to see. Welcome to the Club. Unfortunately, we only had two lathes set up as Zak is out of action and sadly John also had to stay at home to look after his poorly Wife. We hope both get well soon and we send our regards.
Pleased to see Chris had made it and kept those attending entertained with his turning skills and getting them to suggest what to turn and how. Really pleased to see Darren, pick up the Club set of chisels and a lump of wood and have a go on the second lathe. It only seems like yesterday when Darren came along to the Club for the first time, having never turned and had a go on a lathe closely supervised by Stuart if I remember rightly, but tonight we saw him demonstrating to an audience by himself. During the Show and Tell we have seen his work get better and better and more and more complex. Well done Darren and thank you for having a go on the lathe. Also, for turning up early to help us set up and put away at the end of the night.
We even had a small display of work previously made by our members and of course the usual raffle with some great prizes.
Everything set up in the hall on these nights and displayed outside the shop does not magically appear or disappear, we need able bodied individuals to volunteer to come along early from 6pm to help set up and or stay to the very end to help clean up and put it all away again. Whilst the Club is run by a Committee, we can’t be expected to do everything as we physically can’t and therefore ‘We Need You’ to offer to help in whatever way you can.
Christmas Social Evening 14 Dec 2021
To see us out of 2021, we are going to be putting on a Christmas Social Evening at the Village Hall instead of a Hands on Night. This is a free night so will be open to just members (sorry, not open to Wives, partners this year). Open from 7pm until 9:30 pm.
Free buffet, refreshments,
Christmas Draw will be made, some great prizes to be had.
Bring your Show and Tell items that you have been showing us throughout the year or anything you have made this year to enter them into a competition. Christmassy items will also be great to see to get us into the festive spirit. No limit on the number of items you can enter. Just a bit of fun and to have something to admire the quality of the the members work, which has been very impressive.
The Club Shop will be open for some of the evening.
If you are interested in coming along, so that we know the numbers to cater for, please let us know by no later than the 10th Dec if you are coming along. Either send an email to the Club Secretary or phone Mick, see contact us page for details.
We all still need to look after each other by wearing a mask, using the hand gel etc. Just because you may be double jabbed and had a booster, it does not stop you passing it on to other people, so please respect this.
We hope that you will support this evening and look forward to seeing you.
And Finally….
Don’t forget we have our online zoom Workshop night next Tuesday, 16 Nov 2021, so please send me your photos of things you have been making to add to the Show and Tell feature. I don’t have many photos to use, so please see if you can send me some asap. It would be really good to see what some other people have been making, as well as our regulars.
Then, tune in for your last online demo of the year on the 23 Nov 2021, where we are pleased to have back Chris Parker who was our first online demonstrator back when all this lockdown started. PAYG Members need to be purchasing their ticket as soon as possible if you want to watch this demo. Any problems with doing this contact us.
The Club Shop will also be open on the 4 Dec, 10am to midday, so pop along and get stocked up.
Good luck with getting any help Martin.
Was good to be back for the first time since lockdown and bought Josh, who is my daughter’s boyfriend, along for the first time. He bought along a couple of bits he’d made and got interesting comments from some members. He was impressed with the friendliness of everyone he spoke to and recognised Woodbug1 as soon as we walked in the door. Hopefully he’ll become a full member next year we restocked some items for the workshop , bits if wood and he purchased Jay’s little lathe for his brother who makes small items of jewelry. All together a very enjoyable night
It was good to see a new face Paul, and really pleased he enjoyed it. If he needs any help just ask.
