11 Aug 20 – Workshop Activity Night

 In Workshop Nights

Welcome to our Workshop Activity Night

Sorry if you have had a couple of emails about this news post, as I had a few technical problems.

This month’s Workshop Activity night was another successful evening with several new people joining us as either guests or new members.  Yes, we are still attracting to new members despite this new way of operating, so we must be doing something right.  We also welcomed to the Club, Clive Brooks from Robert Sorby who dropped in to answer questions about their products.  He gave us a master class on using the Pro Edge sharpening system providing us with lots of great hints and tips.  You can view their videos that they have produced on their Youtube channel found HERE.

Where possible we are inviting guests from well known suppliers to join us on these workshop nights to answer questions from you the members.  So you can start to have a think of what you want to ask, here are the dates again and who is coming.  Please support this and do ask questions, don’t be shy, as these people have given up their time to join us, so lets make it worth the effort.  If you have a question but dont want to ask it your self, that’s fine, just send a zoom chat message directly to either Alan Buckle or me, Martin Pigott and we wil lread it out.  Alternatively, get really organised and email your questions through to the General Enquiries contact form.

Tue 8 Sept 2020 – Workshop Activity Night, Q & A with Terry Smart from Chestnut Products.

Tue 13 Oct 2020 – Workshop Activity Night, Q & A with Craig Heffren from Record Power to discuss Bandsaws.

Again this month we were pleased to see more members being happy to show and tell their turning triumphs but also share their problems and ask for help, again this is a great step forward. Below are just some of the photos provided after the meeting. If you are able to send me some photos of what you show that would be great as taking a photo of my screen does not work so good.

We are getting as many visitors to our online workshop nights and to our online Interactive demonstrations as we did in the Village Hall at West Ashby.  Why you ask: because we have kept the same friendly atmosphere and are engaging really good turners to demonstrate for us. We have managed to enrol new members whilst in lockdown which is a great testament to the clubs continued popularity.

Coming up in the next few weeks for members Stewart Furini: – Tue 25 Aug 2020 https://www.stewartfuriniwoodturning.co.uk/

And finally,

If you want to join in with these online Workshop Activity Nights and watch future online demos, please ensure your membership fee has been paid.  If you have not yet paid, please contact Alan Selden, the Membership Secretary by selecting the Membership Enquiry option on the Contact form, filling in your details and a message to him.  Any Guests who are not members are very much welcome and we will honour the First Night For Free Flyer as advertised on this website.  However, if you are a Guest, you can’t just turn up as normal, we need prior notice of your intention to come to any online meetings.  Please contact Alan Buckle, the Club Secretary using the Contact form and select General Enquiry filling in your details and a message to him.  Alan B will then add you to his expected attendance list and send you the link to the zoom meeting via email so that you will be allowed to join the zoom meeting.  Remember, please ensure you have your full name displayed on zoom when you join the meetings and not your device name or some other name that has been populated by your device automatically.  If you need help with that contact us and we will try and help you.  If we do not recognise your name when entering the waiting room, you may not be allowed to join the meeting.  This is a security measure to protect the meeting from hackers.
