Training Day, Jumble Collection Update and Lovells Workwear Order

 In Charity, Club Events

13 JULY 19 TRAINING DAY

Yesterday, we held our second successful one to one Training Day at the Village Hall.  With all the available slots fully booked it kept our resident experts busy all day.  Thanks to John Liles, Chris Fisher, Stuart Lowe and Peter Hallam for manning the lathes and passing on their expertise to the students.  After the first Training Day held in May, we changed the timings slightly to give a little more time for setting up, longer between sessions and for longer set breaks during the day to give the guys a rest.  This proved to work well and will be the format for all future days.  We received some great feedback and these sessions are certainly proving to be worth while.  Thank you to the other Committee members for helping during the day, setting up, providing the refreshments, booking in the students, cleaning up all those shavings and clearing it all away at the end of the day.

A suggestion was made of having a fifth lathe set up to cover just finishing your work from sanding to applying finishing products.  After spending the time and effort making your item, how you finish it can make all the difference of it coming out ok or it coming out ‘GREAT’.  If you are interested in this, can you leave a comment below and if we get enough we might arrange it for the September Training Day.

On that subject, we are now taking bookings for the September Training Day on the Sat 21st Sept.  Slots are starting to fill up, so don’t be disappointed go and book yours now HERE.

JUMBLE COLLECTION

We are very pleased to announce that following one of the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Jumble collections back May, we have just received the certificate below confirming that our donation raised £402! Of that amount, over £300 was raised mainly as a result of the sale of loads of wooden jigsaws that had been donated.  So a massive THANK YOU to the individual who donated them and to everyone else who very kindly donated your unwanted jumble items.  We have just had another collection during the last hands on night, so we will see how we do this time.  To date our collection has amounted to £852 towards the charity, so well done and keep it coming in.

And lastly,

For those that have placed orders for the Lovells Workwear, the order has now been submitted, so we are not taking any more orders.  The company has stated that we should get the order within 3 weeks. Once it has arrived and checked to be correct, we will let you know and your items will then be available from the Club Shop, who you will need to pay on collection.  A reminder of the item costs: Smocks – £37, Polo Shirts – £14.50 and Sweat Shirts – £16.  The shop is now covering the cost of the P&P.  We have also ordered some more of the woven Club Logo Badges that will be available from the Club Shop to buy.

Don’t forget, we have the very talented Andrew Hall coming to demo for us on 30 Jul 19, so not one to be missed.

This will also be your last chance to get your advance ticket for the Pat Carroll all day demo on Mon 5 Aug.  Tickets will also be available on the door, but we would really like to know numbers attending before the day.  For more details look HERE

3 – 4 Aug 19 – Chestnut Products, Woodturning Weekender of which we will be having a stand at.  For more details look HERE
