30 Apr 19 – John Liles Demo, Competition Results, Training Day
JOHN LILES DEMO
We had a good turnout of members for John Liles, who I think we should call the innovator. He produced yet another of his own designed gadgets to demonstrate how to turn a square/multifaceted lidded box with a finial. During the evening all things did not go exactly to plan, but the ever professional John went on to show how to recover your work and the need for absolute accuracy when measuring and remounting your work. Thank you John for standing in at the last minute in place of Tony Wilson, who we wish a speedy recovery and hope to see him soon.
We welcomed Martin Pidgen selling his native and exotic woods and Barry Teague selling his pen and projects kits. It requires a lot of effort to bring all their stock along for our meetings and for this, we are very lucky. Please support these guys as much as possible to make it worth their while. I have now added their contact details on the bottom of our Contact page so that if you need to order anything specific, you have all their details to hand.

COMPETITION RESULTS
Although we had a good turnout in the audience to see John’s demo, however, not many entries on the competition table. Martin, our Vice Chairman once again reminded us all that whatever your skills level you can still vote for the table winners, but we do need pieces of work to vote for. Come on get turning and entering, it’s not all about the winning but if you do, it gives your confidence a great boost.
Well done to the following winners.
Novice Class Winners
1st Paul Tunmore

Club Class Winners
1st Terry Alford

Open Class Winners
1st Chris Fisher, 2nd Tony Cooke and 3rd Peter Barrack

What’s up Next?
Next meeting is the Hands on Night on the 14th May 19,
Training Day 11 May – a few places left with Stuart to fill, don’t miss out on this opportunity for one to one training for only £5 per hour.
and to end the month off, on the 28 May 19, we have Mick Hanbury demonstrating for us. See you all there.
Notes for your diary:
10 – 11 May 19 – Woodworks Daventry 2019 at Daventry Leisure Centre.
30 Jun 19 – Summer Grill Night at the Splash, Little Cawthorpe, 7pm for 7:30pm, tickets on sale now costing £10 each. You will need to tell John what you will be wanting to eat in due course, but as yet I don’t have the confirmed menu.
5 Aug 19 – Pat Carroll, All day demo, 2pm to 5:30 and 7pm to 10pm. Tickets now on sale at £10 each. We have previously had a very poor turnout for the all day demos, so please show your support for this one and get your ticket soon. Pat is coming all the way from Ireland to do several demos, so we have been very lucky to book him. You will need to bring your teatime refreshment, but normal teas and coffee and biscuits are included.
And finally,
Club Survey – We are wanting your feedback on the Club and what we can do to improve it. To date out of the 79 active email subscribers who will have received the news post about it so you can complete it online, we have had only 27 responses which is pretty disappointing. You don’t have to give your name, but if your do, you will be entered into a free prize draw to receive a £25 gift voucher for the shop. For those not online, there are hard copies available to fill in. It’s your club at the end of the day, so if you have any ideas and suggestions we would love to hear them.
Despite numerous requests, we still do not have anyone to fill the post of Programme Secretary. We have previously split the jobs in the Club so that they were shared out instead of the individuals having to do everything. If you want to have demonstrations next year and thereafter, unless we get someone to come forward to do the job, we will have a very empty stage. Its your choice. If interested, please contact us.
