Phillip Greenwood Demo and Competition Results – 30 Oct 18
PHILLIP GREENWOOD DEMO
We had another almost full house this month which is great to see and a few new faces. We welcomed back Phillip Greenwood from Hutton-le-Hole which is on the edge of North York Moors National Park who last demonstrated for us back in Oct 2013. He started his demo with a three piece earring stand and showed how you don’t need an expensive lathe with an indexing system to get the holes evenly spaced. He showed us his simple wooden disc with the holes marked on which goes between the chuck and the headstock. Then with metal rod with a 90 degree angle in the end and a piece of wood clamped to the bed bars you can easily lock the headstock in the right place. Additionally he showed another homemade jig that allows the drilling of the holes to be perfectly placed.
Next was a simple little ring stand to complement the earring stand. He ended the evening with a natural edge bowl.

Martin Having spoke to a number of club members would someone from the committee please explain how the “Demonstrators Box” works. No one that I have spoke to seems to understand its function/purpose. Many Thanks
Hi Brian, if you are referring to the box by the door with tickets in, this is or was the Turners Raffle. We have asked the demonstrators to donate what they made that members can buy a ticket for the chance to win. The money raised goes towards our nominated charity. This year we are going to be transferring all tickets brought to date over to our Grand Draw tickets for the chance to win some fantastic prizes of which any donated turned and finished items will be included. Check out the Grand Draw page for a full list of prizes donated to date. Regards Martin
