Hands on Night 13 Nov 18 and AGM

HANDS ON NIGHT

This was our last Hands on Night for 2018, which I can’t believe its now only 42 days to Christmas, where has the year gone?

If you are one of those people that are really hard to buy Christmas presents for, how about suggesting to your partners, family and friends the idea of getting you Club Gift vouchers that can be redeemed in the Club shop.  Ask John the Treasurer or John/Mick in the shop for more details.

Only one more Club shopping day before Christmas…. may be not, watch this space!  The shop is planning to open up its doors on a day in December just for you, date to be announced.  Also, as well as the Glass Baubles now on sale, we will shortly be stocking the correct glue as used by Emma ‘The Tiny Turner’ to attach the glass to the wooden parts of the Christmas Bauble she recently demonstrated.

We had over 30 members and guests attend the evening making it another great success.  Thanks again to all our resident turners, John Liles, Chris Fisher, Stuart Lowe, Peter Hallam and Richard Holland in providing some first class tuition.  We saw how to make pens as requested last month and some egg cups along with some basic turning skills being covered for the beginners. Thanks also to Peter Blows for showing how to sharpen chisels on the Pro Edge.  Every day is a school day and hopefully you all managed to learn something or pick up some goods ideas and tips.  Thanks to Barry Teague in bringing along his pen kits and for providing the prepared pen blanks to be used for the demonstration.  For more photos, please see the Gallery

And lastly, Club AGM

Our Club AGM is on the 29 Jan 2019, at which, we vote on new Committee members and renew existing Committee members into key roles.  Without people volunteering to take on such roles, this seriously effects how the Club operates and places more burden on those already in post.  It could also result in us not having a Club at all, if YOU don’t come forward to support your Club and offer your time, skills and commit to doing such roles.

There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes and not just on Club and Hands on nights to provide such a successful Club.  We all lead busy lives and some of us are still in full time employment but yet make the time to fully support the Club.

We are sorry to say that Jay, our Membership Secretary, Mike our Programme Secretary and Chris our Vice Chair are standing down as of the AGM.  So we now need some volunteers to come forward and have a chat with them to see what is involved and to take on those  roles.  If you are interested in these roles or there are any others you fancy having a go at, please speak to the Chairman, Geoff or the Secretary, Alan.

See you all at the last Club night for 2018 on the 27 Nov and don’t forget to get your tickets for the Christmas do on the 11 Dec at The Splash.

Come on lads step up there are important jobs that need to be filled, not only now but for the future of our club, we need to plan for contingencies like health problems and even, dare I say getting older. We are fortunate to have a wonderful club let’s keep it that way, and we will with your help.

Another great and well attended meeting. Good to see many folks having a go. Keep it up.
I second all of Chris’s comments.
